Only an hour drive from Binghamton nestled in the cozy hamlet of Ithaca awaits a golfing experience of a life time. Make no mistake here, Hillendale is a golf course for all golfers - men or women - young or old, experienced or a beginner, it's a course that emphasizes what the game is really all about. The front side of Hillendale is like playing a shortened version of Green Lakes. It was build around 1925 and its rolling hills and beautiful vies inspired the course name. The seventh hole, a rascal par three (139 Back tees, 115 forward tees) is without a doubt the most uniquely designed par three. The back nine was made around 1991 and has been (accurately) described as the perfect contrast to the front nine. It's relatively flat terrain and tree lined fairways require accurate tee shots and gentle irons in. When you reach the 15th hold, a tree lined short par four (332 back tees, 293 front tees), a charming little gazebo seemed to invite us in for a rest. Hillendale is more than a well maintained, well manicured golf course - it is a living, working philosophy of what a golf course needs to be for ninety percent of the players in the world.

As a native of Japan and a U.S. citizen Hidy Ochiai, came to the US in 1962 with the mission of teaching the martial arts.After receiving his B.A. from Albright College In 1966, Master Ochiai moved to Binghamton, NY & established Washin-ryu (wa-harmony, shin-truth) Karate-do in the United States. Washin-ryu now includes 25 branch schools across the United States.

From 1967-1980, Master Ochiai established himself as one of the world's premier martial artists. He was rated the number one kata (form) competitor by the PKA (Professional Karate Association), having won the United States Grand National Karate Championship for five consecutive years, an unduplicated record. He has been inducted twice to the Black Belt Magazine's Hall of Fame in 1979 as "Instructor of the Year" and in 1980 as "Man of the Year." In 2004, Hidy Ochiai was inducted to the Martial Arts History Museum's Hall of Fame in Los Angeles. He received a record number of votes.
